Lack Of Layers – Hairstyle Mistakes 7 & 8
Mistake 7: A Lack of Layers
Here’s a scary thought: “If you don’t cut layers in short hair, you’ll look like Dorothy Hamill,” says hairstylist Chris McMillan of Chris McMillan, The Salon in Los Angeles. (Or worse: “Remember Dumb and Dumber?” asks Lloyd.) The trick here is to cut strategically: long pieces are subtle but still add dimension. Choppiness all over adds volume to fine strands. And if hair is really thick, cutting layers underneath can reduce volume and make hair “less blunt and broomstick-y,” says Lloyd.
Mistake 8: Not Keeping up With the Cut
Short hair may be low-maintenance in the style department, but it’s like a needy boyfriend when it comes to trims. Go in for a cut every six weeks or, as Lloyd says, follow the hairstylist’s rule of thumb: When your longest layers start flipping up on the bottom, it’s time to go to the salon.

Time For School With Medium Length Hairstyles
Time For School With A Medium Length Hairstyle
It is that time of year again when we are looking at back to school styles, but just because it is time to go back to school does not mean that you have to let go of the summer time inspirations for hairstyles. With the use of light hair colors, braids and hair weaves that were popular in the summer you can transition your summer style into the fall season.
French braid hairstyles can be difficult to learn at first but once mastered these hairstyles are a great hairstyle to transition in to fall and back to school style. French braids are very diverse, you can wear a single French braid down the center of your head or you can part your hair down the center of your head and create two French braids on either side of the part. You can braid your hair starting on one side of your head and wrapping the French braid over to the other side creating a whimsical look for fall.
You can get back to school ready with your hairstyle by adding some soft summer highlights to you hair, carrying over the summer look into the fall season. Nice light colored highlights are a great way to have a bit of fun while heading back to school.
Lastly you can add hair extensions (weaves) to your hair creating a nice medium to long length. With hair extensions you can add beautiful volume to your hair as well as changing the length to one that suits you. With hair extensions you can also add more texture to your hair and have it cut and styled to add beautiful long layers which will again create the perfect back to school look.
Going back to school does not have to be hard. It is a time in which you can change your look and create a new style for the coming year. Have fun with your hair and make it a fashion statement.

Get Your Modern Scene Haircut Today
What is a modern scene hair cut? It is bold and glamorous, young, punk and avant-garde. Think 80’s metal hair trimmed with all the sophistication of today. Scene haircuts can be a mullet, a bob, or long with layers. It is hard to define the perfect scene haircut because generally there is not one scene that defines the hair. Scene women are all unique and have different tastes in style. Music is a huge influence with scene haircuts. With that said there are many scene haircuts for women today.
It is hard to pin point the perfect scene haircut because there is not a standard cut. Scene followers turn to music to find their inspiration. The styles vary from 80’s pop, new wave, heavy metal, hard core rock, to retro classic music. Looking at your favorite music style can help lead you in the direction that is right for you and your scene haircut.
Here are some common scene haircuts. The first is a wild haircut, something wild like a Mohawk. You can leave the sides of your hair long and spike up the back of your hair at the crown of your head. Tease and rat your hair to make it wild and edgy. Add short layers to be able to spike out your hair easier.
The next haircut is a razor cut, wild style. Plenty of layers and uneven pieces will make this scene haircut look perfect. This cut should look like your hair got in a fight with the scissors and the scissors had no respect for your hair. If you can have your hair stylist accomplish this then you may end up with the perfect scene haircut.
Hair color is another big hit with creating a scene haircut. You can dye pieces of your hair black, hot pink, blue, orange, green, bright red, etc. This is a great scene hairstyle. You may also wish to dye your hair two different colors, for example, dye your bangs a darker color than the rest of your hair.
Scene haircuts are all about you and your style preferences. To truly get a scene haircut it helps to tune into your musical preferences and look to that music to help find the inspiration for the scene style that is right for you.

A Guide To Layered Hairstyles
A Guide To Layered Hairstyles
There are a variety of hairstyles that include layers. For those of us who are not familiar with layered hairstyles you might ask what is layered hair and how is it accomplished. The answer is simple. Layered hair is accomplished when you have your hair cut into various lengths, usually longest to shortest. With the top layers of hair, those that grow nearer the crown, cut shorter than the layers beneath. This allows the tips of the top layers to blend seamlessly with the layers beneath.
If you have curly hair you might wonder if layers would be a positive or negative. It depends on you and your hair type. For example you might have curly hair but when it is layered it appears thin. Another person might find their curly hair more full when they have layers added. It all depends on your hair texture. Know your hair before you give layers a try.
If you have straight hair regardless of texture layers will look great. Adding layers to straight hair is a fun way to change your hairstyle with out necessarily loosing much of the length. You can cut your hair in a bob hairstyle and have short layers put into it to create a fun choppy style. To that same bob hairstyle you could add long layers and create texture that frames your face for a sophisticated style.
For medium length hair you can add both long and short layers and create a fun flared look. You can use a flat iron to flip out the ends of the layers to create a fun sassy look or that that same flat iron and help the ends of the layers to curve under to create a soft look.
Layers are fun to accessorize too. With your curly hair you can add a fun clip and pin up your shorter layers to create a fun half do, where you wear half your hair up and half of your hair down. With your straight hair you can use a head band to pull back part of your hair and accentuate your layers. With the use of a head band you could create a whimsical look by flipping the ends of your hair out some what messily. The sky is the limit with layers and accessories.
Layers are a nice addition to many hairstyles. They not only create volume and add texture but they can take an okay looking hairstyle and bring it to life with just a few snips of the hair. If you have never had layers added to one of your hairstyles you might consider giving them a try.
