10 Biggest Short Haircut Mistakes

Posted by Hair Styles

curly hair cut mistakeMistake 1: Making the Cut If You’re Curly

Corkscrews and short hair don’t mix. “If you have tight curls, you’ll have to use a blow-dryer and pull on each ringlet to stretch it out, which is time consuming,” says hairstylist Serge Normant of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in New York City. “You’re better off with a layered bob—the weight of the extra length relaxes the curl.”

If you look like you could host the evening news, your haircut is too blunt. “Adding layers throughout—especially underneath—makes a short cut look more youthful,” says hairstylist River Lloyd of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in New York City. You also want to mess up the texture—”when the hair is smooth and you can’t see the layers, that’s when it starts to look like a helmet.” Ditch the hair spray and pick up a bottle of spray wax (Lloyd recommends Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax). Mist throughout and then blow-dry the hair up and over to the opposite side of the head. When you let it back down, it will hang flat, without that dated under-flip.

Loose Curls Updo Hairstyle

Loose curls are a very popular style with many women who are trying to find the perfect hairstyle for a formal event.  Creating a hairstyle that uses loose curls is a great way to try an updo or even a halfdo hairstyle.  Loose curls are a fun way to create both elegant and classy hairstyles.

One elegant style you can try is a ringlet inspired updo.  To accomplish this hairstyle you will need to wash your hair at least twenty four hours before you want to wear this updo, as dirty hair works best to keep and hold the curls in place.  After you wash your hair use a diffuser to help create tight ringlets in your naturally curly hair.  If you do not have naturally curly hair you will need to set your hair overnight on tiny rag, foam or spiral curlers to create a lot of wonderful curls.  Once you have your curls created you will need to form a half ponytail in your hair and then loop that half ponytail around itself to create a loop.  Pin this with bobby pins to hold the loop in place.  Once this step is done you can take the bottom half of your hair and part it in the middle.  Take one section and pull up toward the base of the half ponytail.  Pin the curls as close to the base of the half ponytail to create balance.  Repeat with the other side of your parted hair and secure with bobby pins.  Once you have completed the steps you will have created a beautiful ringlet updo.

Are you looking for a hair weave style that is elegant?  There are many elegant hair weaves or braided hairstyles.  Searching for the right elegant look no longer has to be difficult.

When considering an elegant looking braided hairstyle the first thing to think about is not having any beads or plastic hair accessories in the hairstyle.  It is true that beads and other types of material are some times used at the end of the individual braids they do not always give an elegant look or finish to a hairstyle.

There are many options when considering elegant braided hairstyles.  Some of your options include micro braids, goddess braids, or traditional hair braids.  Micro braids are smaller then traditional braids and are done by taking minute pieces of hair and adding them with a hair braiding weave and then braiding them together.  Micro braids also come in a variety of styles all of which will create an elegant hair style.  There are micro twists, micro curly, and micro rope to name a few.

Goddess braids are another elegant looking braided hairstyle.  Goddess braids are a take off of traditional cornrow braids.  They are basically oversized cornrows.  To achieve the goddess braid, have your hairstylist begin by dividing your hair into sections and then take the first section and start to braid over handed.  Your stylist will add new pieces of synthetic hair every so often to create the desired volume in the cornrow.  Goddess braids are also a great way to not only add amazing volume to your hair but they also work to add amazing length.  This length can easily be translated into an elegant braided hairstyle.

It is that time of year again when we are looking at back to school styles, but just because it is time to go back to school does not mean that you have to let go of the summer time inspirations for hairstyles.  With the use of light hair colors, braids and hair weaves that were popular in the summer you can transition your summer style into the fall season.

French braid hairstyles can be difficult to learn at first but once mastered these hairstyles are a great hairstyle to transition in to fall and back to school style.  French braids are very diverse, you can wear a single French braid down the center of your head or you can part your hair down the center of your head and create two French braids on either side of the part.  You can braid your hair starting on one side of your head and wrapping the French braid over to the other side creating a whimsical look for fall.

You can get back to school ready with your hairstyle by adding some soft summer highlights to you hair, carrying over the summer look into the fall season.  Nice light colored highlights are a great way to have a bit of fun while heading back to school.

Going back to school does not have to be hard.  It is a time in which you can change your look and create a new style for the coming year.  Have fun with your hair and make it a fashion statement.
