Sewn In Hair Weaves – How To Weave Hair

Posted by Hair Styles

sewn in hair weaveHair weaves (extensions) are a great way to change your hair style without the wait.  Hair weaves add length and volume to your hair and are a fun, sassy way to get a new look.  They can be done at home or at a salon.  They can be pricy, but for a well done weave an experienced salon is the way to go.

Weaves can be done with real or synthetic hair.  Weaving is done when you take hair extensions and have them braided or sewn into your existing hair.  They can also be applied using a special type of glue or wax.  Hair weaves typically last up to two months, and can be taken care of just as you would your own hair.  However weave hair can become dry and brittle as it is not attached to your scalp, and doesn’t receive your scalps natural oils, so take care to keep it conditioned.

To do a weave you start by having your hair braided into corn rows horizontally along the scalp.  This is done so that once the hair extensions are sewn in they look like they are natural and appears to be one with the natural hair.  Start at the base of your head and work your way up, adding a new layer as you go.  Keep most of your hair up at the beginning, braiding the first extension in.  Once that is done let down some of your hair, to create a layer and then braid in another extension.  Continue the process until you have finished with the shortest extension. Remember that these hair extensions will make your hair heavy, so keep the layers to a minimum.

After you have finished with the shortest layer it is time to have it styled.  Many women prefer to have their hair weave cut and styled after it is put in, so that it looks fresh and new.  Remember that weaves take a long time to put in, so pack your patience.  And also remember that they will take a long time to come out too.
