Micro braids are fun and unique and they last a long time. These braids take a long time however to be braided into your hair. Micro means ‘small’ and so these very small braids make it easy for you to do whatever you want with your hair. As your regular hair grows out these micro braids will start to look bad as the new hair growth will be noticeable next to the micro braids. If you do not take care of these braids they can actually damage your hair or cause you to lose some hair volume. Your hair will grow back but having micro braids will still cause some damage.

It is necessary to wash your hair frequently, rubbing the scalp between the braids. Micro braids will keep your hair tightly together making it harder to wash the hair and your scalp. Its important to use dandruff shampoo rather than regular shampoo because it will help with the dryness these micro braids will cause. Another good tip is to find a ‘leave in conditioner’ and use it frequently to help with your braids. This alone will help your braids last longer and keep them looking nicer, longer.

Its important to try to not style your hair so much. By not styling your hair you will not be moving the braids around too much. The use of a blow dryer will also damage your braids and cause your hair to become frizzy. When you first get micro braids you will want to take it easy for the first few days, to get used to the feeling of the braids. Having pain during the process does not mean you are damaging your hair, as with micro braids you will feel lots of tension as your hair is being pulled tight to make the braid. Having pressure on your head is not a bad thing, as it will go away after a few days, or after the hair grows out from your scalp a little more.

You can also buy a moisturizing spray from your local salon to help keep your hair moist and from drying out because of the micro braids. Just be sure you do not over do the spraying.
